Appeal of Armenian Diaspora and its friends in Finland to Finnish official Bodies
Respectful Members of Parliament, Government,
Honourable Mrs. Marin and Mr. Niinistö,
Armenian Community of Finland, being also citizens and residents of Finland, serving for prosperity and flourishment of Finland, as well as the Finnish friends of Armenia, have the honor to apply to you with an appeal.
The purpose of our appeal is drawing your kind attention to the present situation in Armenia and military attacks by Azerbaijan to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh as Armenians call it) and Armenia. We are sure, that European and Finnish legislative bodies have passed and signed an array of international laws and conventions. Now it is the high time to implement them, to put the words into action, and prove that we support human rights and dignity. Being silent and remaining indifferent remains to approve slaughter.
We are more than sure, that you are informed from official sources, of Azerbaijan’s large-scale aggression against Artsakh from 27.09.20. The military situation is escalating dramatically, and today adversaries are initiating full-fledged war against Armenia, as Armenian bordering villages were fired on 29.09.20. There are absolutely no doubts, that Turkish military experts are fighting side by side with Azerbaijan, who are using the Turkish weapons, including UAVs and warplanes. According to credible sources, Turkey is recruiting and transporting foreign terrorist fighters to Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Turkey provides full political and propaganda support to Azerbaijan at the highest level of its leadership. The Turkish F-16 multifunctional fighter wounded the SU-25 attacker of the Republic of Armenia Air Force in the airspace of the Republic of Armenia. This is a direct evidence of Turkey's involvement in the war against the Republic of Artsakh.
According to International Conventions every single nation has the right for self-protection. Artsakh’s free and proud population exercises its inherent right to self-defense and takes all necessary measures to repel the aggression and restore peace in the region.
Living in a society, where highest standards of democracy are adopted, we are witnessing very confusing appeals to cease fire and to start negotiations.
These appeals are absolutely losing their actuality and power, as Armenia and Artsakh are facing a large-scale attack. The sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia is in danger.
The worse side of the reality is that the appeals for peace turn into indifference. We are more than sure that there is nothing worse or devastating on the Earth than indifference..
Rich history lessons showed, that indifference brought the humanity to irreversible tragedy and catastrophes. Finnish people also tasted its bitter taste during their history and know how painful it was.
We, Armenians, having over two thousand years of history, have faced it constantly. The latest of them was the Armenian Genocide of 1915, and whole modern world witnessed it. The negative side of that page of history is, as many eminent political analytics stated, the fact, that it was left unpunished, which brought to other genocides around the world.
We remember this page of history here, as it shows that indifference of the international community and being unpunished, gives Turkey new opportunities to use hate speech and actions towards the Armenian nation.
Respectful Members of Parliament, Finnish government, honourable Mrs. Marin and Mr. Niinistö, please, take a step and prove that the words about humanity, democracy and peace are not decorative and artificial.
Take this chance to prove, that we are human and we are strong together, regardless political and ideological commitment and creed. We cannot fight for world peace, global development, equal rights and ecology, if we keep on being indifferent.
And last and not least, every single person and country is challenged by Covid-19. Azerbaijan and Turkey repeatedly are ignorant to the appeal of UN for ceasefire, not to initiate conflicts. And they are still remaining unpunished. Armenians are for the peaceful conflict settlement.
We will highly appreciate your kind attention and assistance in this vital issue for us.
We will be waiting for your reply and vigorous actions to condemn this act of aggression, to protect the indigenous people of Artsakh and Armenia and to adopt statements calling Turkey to cease its involvement.
Best regards,
The letter is sent on behalf of the Finland-Armenia Association and Armenian Lasten ja nuorten tuki, based on 250 signatures of the Armenian community in Finland and their friends in Finland.
