Strasbourg, 18.05.2020 - The Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will organize a virtual parliamentary hearing on Tuesday 19 May, with a view to identifying effective and human rights-compliant responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and an equitable management of the social, economic, financial and political consequences.
The discussion will be launched by speakers invited specifically for the occasion: Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Rebecca Katz, Professor and Director of the Center for Global Health Science and Security at Georgetown University (USA), Dr David Nabarro, Special Envoy on COVID-19 to the World Health Organization Director-General, as well as Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights.
This hearing will serve as a basis for the preparation of a report to be adopted at a forthcoming meeting of the committee. The rapporteur on this issue is due to be appointed on 19 May in the morning.
