The overall atmosphere in Cyprus with regard to the minority languages is very positive, says a new report of the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts under the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languagespublished together with the Recommendation by the Committee of Ministers. Despite budgetary constraints, the implementation of the Charter provisions concerning the Armenian and Cypriot Maronite Arabic languages has improved. However, the Committee of Experts recommends that steps be taken to expand the teaching of these languages and strengthen their presence in broadcasting.
